This workshop focuses on grounding, energy use, and body awareness through contemporary and African dance practices. Participants will explore how power is distributed within the body, how weight shifts, and how movement can be both efficient and expressive.

The workshop begins with simple mind-body exercises that encourage participants to perceive their physical state from within and to shift their attention from external appearances to internal sensations. This creates space to recognize how factors such as sleep, stress, and mental focus influence movement and physical performance.

Through guided exercises, participants explore tension and relaxation, effort and ease, as well as the relationship between stability and mobility. The exercises include isolations, restrictions, floor work, movement sequences through the space, and weight shifts, all of which serve to challenge habitual movement patterns and promote adaptability.

Special attention is given to the lower body and the grounding principles of African dance techniques, in which the relationship to weight and the floor plays a central role.
