With Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq, one of the most distinguished jazz musicians living in Germany visits the Zig Zag Jazz Club once again to present you with a program of authentic Afro-American jazz sound in the tradition of the most pioneering artists of this style. The international all-star band that Fuasi has engaged for this concert is also made up of virtuoso musicians who are among the driving forces of the Berlin jazz scene.

Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq has been performing professionally since 1972. After graduating from college, he did his post­graduate studies with the late great African-American pianist, Horace Tapscott and UGMAA (Union of God's Musicians and Artist Ascension) in Los Angeles, California. This led to a lifetime relationship with Tapscott's Pan-African People's Arkestra (PAPA), during which time he served as assistant conductor, arranger, composer, copyist to accompany his duties on saxophone, clarinet and flute.

In 1991, Fuasi came to Berlin, where he became a name in the city's jazz scene. For the last 23 years, Fuasi has toured Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America, he has led his own ensembles such as Fuasi & Ensemble, The Ebony Big Band Experience, The Horace Tapscott Memorial Ensemble and the Afro Cubano Latin Jazz Connection.

Joel Holmes is a Grammy Nominated internationally known Pianist, Producer, and Composer, performing in various formations from New York to Japan, convincing the listeners with his unique touch and sense of groove. He has played with Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Cobb, Nnenna Freelon, Javon Jackson etc. His repertoire ranges from traditional Jazz, to world music, Nu-Jazz, Neo-Soul, Hip Hop and Electronic music.

Gur Liraz was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1988 and was accepted to the prestigious Thelma Yellin High School as a Jazz major. He spent 4 years studying with jazz guitar master Ofer Ganor. After an eight-month stay in New York, where he took lessons with guitar legend Peter Bernstein, Gur moved to Berlin in 2013 and soon became involved in the city's rapidly developing jazz scene. With his quartet, he accompanied singer Amanda Becker on her debut album, "You're Looking at Me." The two also recorded a duet album - "Ask Me Now" in 2023. His debut album 'Squiggles' appeared May 19, 2023 on the London-based music label UBUNTU Music.

Carmelo Leotta is a musician based in now all Europe, who has embraced the diversity of musical currents such as jazz, blues, electronic and ethnic music. As an arranger, producer and composer, he has released four solo albums. In the course of his long career, he has had the privilege of traveling the world and playing with giants such as Jimmy Cobb, Archie Shepp and Benny Golson. Today he still plays with the hottest players on the scene, for example in his chamber jazz trio with Tal Arditi and Dustin Drews.

Originally from Lower Saxony, Tilman Person came to Berlin in 1991 to study with Jerry Granelli and David Friedman. He is a permanent member of the band Lyambiko, the Martina Gebhardt Band and the Albrecht Gündel-vom Hofe Jazz Sextet. As a sideman he is recorded on countless records and is an integral part of the Berlin scene.
