Cinematheque – Art-house cinema
Klara Heydebreck kept many documents relating to her life and saved them through the turmoil of two wars. Armed with this legacy, Eberhard Fechner set out in 1969 to search for a person who was no longer alive. A process of tireless investigation: Fechner visits the flat, examines the remains, delves into the deceased woman’s wage records, and, in the process, reconstructs the circumstances of the time and, above all, the life story of a courageous and solitary woman who was neither willing nor able to submit to the conventional rules governing a woman’s life.
