Airing Out – Open Air in the Schlüter Courtyard Live Concerts, DJ Acts

Live concerts DJ sets and cool drinks. You are cordially invited to the open-air music festival DURCHLÜFTEN - free and outside. The transcultural and cross-genre live programme presents international guests and musicians from the Berlin scene on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 13 July to 5 August 2023.

Let yourself be carried away by our musical parcours, which leads from Accra to Bogotá, from Belgrade to Bangkok, from Harare to Istanbul and back again to the dancefloor sounds of Berlin nightlife. On twelve summer evenings, DURCHLÜFTEN creates a space to hear and see bands that span wide musical arcs and tell diverse stories - impressive, multi-perspective and extremely danceable. Framed by the baroque façades of the Schlüterhof, the DURCHLÜFTEN festival invites music lovers of all ages, Berlin visitors and Berlin night owls to experience extraordinary music.

Curated by Melissa Perales, the programme aims to surprise with the unheard and the familiar, with sounds and rhythms that move across borders and continents.

Entanglements of the Fifth Kind - a collective evening
Will this evening be a rock opera, a performance, a mega jam session or a futuristic critical musical? We don't know yet, because the five Residents are currently working on their collective evening of newly written songs, visuals and archive material from the depths of the Humboldt Forum.
Only this much should be revealed: We have invited the Berlin-based musicians and artists. Emeka Okérèké, Candace Lee Camacho alias duendita, Dhanesh Jayaselan, Gotopo and Batila da Costa, to engage with the Humboldt Forum itself, its curators and collections in the form of a research residency. This dialogue with the house will result in a new concert evening full of perspectives, questions and encounters.

Where does the title come from?
It is a reminiscence of the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This science fiction film from the 1980s dispels the notion that "the other" is a threat to our earthly way of life. While some scenes with the aliens are mysterious and frightening, the real message of the film is one of unity and optimism. Instead of fearing forces we don't understand, we should try to communicate with them and find common ground. All in all, it is a story about embracing a world full of new possibilities. The title of the film derives from ufologist J. Allen Hynek's classification of close encounters with extraterrestrials, in which the third species refers to human observations of aliens or "animate beings."
