In a Sudanese cotton-farming village, Nafisa grows up listening to her grandmother’s fairy-tale stories. When a businessman from abroad arrives with genetically modified seeds and grand development plans, she becomes a key figure in the power struggle over the village’s future—and in the process discovers her own strength.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Sudanese director Marwa Zein, who has gained international attention for her documentaries and short films and works in Berlin as a director, producer, and film instructor.

Together with Rabih El-Khoury, she will discuss the film, the development of Sudanese cinema, the current situation in Sudan, and her own perspective as a filmmaker in Berlin.
