The Potsdam Orchestra Week – originally founded by cantor Dietrich Schönherr during the GDR era as an orchestra retreat – has existed as a registered association since 1992 and today looks back on over 40 years of musical history.

Every year, music-loving amateurs meet on the island of Hermannswerder in Potsdam to work on symphonic works and perform them in several concerts – a musical holiday experience with a special atmosphere.

In 2025, the focus will be on three extraordinary compositions: the colorful Scherzo fantastique by Josef Suk, a virtuoso and playful double bass concerto by Giovanni Bottesini – the "Paganini of the double bass" – and the energetic Symphony No. 1 by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen.

A special highlight: the renowned double bassist Hans-Christian Rautengarten will enrich this year's week as a soloist. The musical direction is – as it has been for over a decade – in the trusted hands of conductor Mattias Salge.
