Psalm settings through the ages
"Schaffe in mir Gott ein rein(es) Herz", Psalm 51, sounds as expected different in Johannes Brahms than in the contemporary composer Manfred Schlenker. But: apart from stylistic guidelines by the possibilities of tonal languages of the respective time, the two composers interpret certain passages sometimes almost identically in affect, while other text passages obviously lead to very different musical interpretations.
