participatory festival
Throughout the month of September, activities and events take place in all of Berlin’s districts that focus on democratic values and community—whether it’s a neighborhood initiative, a pop-up exhibition, a neighborhood festival, or a workshop.
The Programme
Under the motto “One City, Many Voices,” over 50 Berlin-based associations, initiatives, NGOs, and companies invite you to get involved and get to know them! At the participatory festival, children, teens, and adults can playfully explore democracy at numerous activity booths, get creative, and share their own opinions—all while getting to know many key players in Berlin’s civic and civil society! For the third time, the festival will take place in front of the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek to mark International Democracy Day.
In addition to a democracy quiz, mock elections for those under 16, and wheels of fortune, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved yourself: Design your own buttons, keychains, or election posters; try your hand at linoleum and screen printing; or immerse yourself in an exciting world of puzzles with a mobile escape game centered on artificial intelligence, presented by the Berlin-Brandenburg Media Authority.
For those who love to be active, a bounce house and sports activities organized by the Hertha BSC Foundation and Safe-Hub Berlin invite you to let off some steam. There’s also plenty to discover musically: On stage, in addition to musical entertainment, you can enjoy a children’s reading performance centered on the theme of democracy. Anyone who wants to get involved musically can try out instruments at the Kinderphilharmonie booth.
Come along and join in!
