In April 1945, the Red Army liberated the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, just eight kilometers north of Berlin. Between 1936 and 1945, 200,000 people were imprisoned and tortured there, and tens of thousands died.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation, the Berlin State Agency for Political Education and the Friends of the Sachsenhausen Memorial are exploring the connections between the Reich capital Berlin and the concentration camp.

The event is dedicated to the historical significance of Sachsenhausen and the present-day memorial from a scholarly and didactic perspective. Personal stories of relatives of the prisoners will also be discussed.

The event is aimed at all interested parties, especially multipliers in youth and adult education who would like to receive inspiration for historical education work.
