On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe, the Stadtmuseum Berlin, together with the berlinHistory e.V. association, is presenting a digital offer for all those who want to experience history within reach.
From hundreds of images of the destroyed Berlin of 1945, the successful, free berlinHistory App with a newly developed camera module can now be used to create, upload and share "before and after" images directly online. This makes the consequences of the Second World War visible in the city and enables breathtaking comparisons between then and now.
The berlinHistory App is a digital museum on Berlin history, which is operated and continuously expanded by the non-profit association of the same name in cooperation with Berlin cultural institutions and initiatives as well as archives. All content is presented location-based in the digital urban space and is created for permanent use. The berlinHistory App provides a wide range of information about the city's history on current and historical maps and aerial photographs: with texts, photos, films, interviews with contemporary witnesses and tours.
In addition, the app has become the winner of the DigAMus Awards 2020 with Berlin 1945! It was awarded as one of the best digital projects of museums, in the category Apps and Games.
