New narratives for a multi-voiced children’s and youth theatre
The Berlin Play Prize for Young Audiences will be awarded for the first time in 2024. Every two years, the state of Berlin awards this prize to outstanding children's and youth theater plays.
For an entire day, the focus will be on authors with strong texts that deal with the realities of young people's lives today.
In cooperation with Berlin schools, each play will be accompanied by a mentor class - this creates a direct encounter between authors and young audiences.
The finalists' texts will be presented in staged readings set up by directing students from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. Impulsive lectures by experts and interviews with the authors will expand the program for specialist audiences and provide an opportunity for exchange.
The drama club, which will be dealing with the submitted plays this season and will have a vote in the final selection, will also be on site.
At the end of the day, the winning text will be announced at the ceremonial awards ceremony, which will premiere at the Parkaue in the 2025/26 season.
