with Friederike Schmitz
We will show a short version of the play "Tier wie Wir - Die Reise in eine Zukunft für Alle" (Animals like Us - The Journey to a Future for All), which was produced last year at tak. In it, seven performers embark on a trip through their personal and societal human-animal relationships, through dominance, exploitation, and intimate connection. They discover how humans, convinced they are different from animals.
They seek the perspectives of other species and find - all of us. The human diet consists of a large and globally growing proportion of animal products. Behind this is a food system in which humans, animals and nature are exploited on a large scale worldwide. After the theater scenes, the animal ethicist Friederike Schmitz and our guests will discuss various aspects of the human-animal relationship as well as ways to a fairer and more ecological diet for all.
Friederike Schmitz holds a PhD in philosophy, is an author and one of the most prominent voices in the German animal rights movement. Her publications include the widely discussed anthology "Tierethik. Grundlagentexte" (Suhrkamp 2014) and the book "Tiere essen - dürfen wir das?" (Metzler 2020). As a sought-after interlocutor in the media and at events, she regularly discusses with people from agriculture, politics and civil society what needs to change in our food system. Most recently, she published the book "Anders Satt - Wie der Ausstieg aus der Tierindustrie gelingt" in 2022, in which she goes into detail about the effects of agricultural animal husbandry and political-social exit routes, as well as presenting realistic alternatives.
