The famous Russian-Jewish-American composer Alexander Zhurbin, born in Tashkent/Uzbekistan, is the author of 10 operas, 50 musicals, 8 symphonies, 4 instrumental concertos and 65 soundtracks for films. He is the only composer to have written four musicals based on works by Isaak Babel, Scholem Aleichem, Shalom Asch and Salomon An-ski (»Dibbuk«, 2023) on Jewish themes, all of which have been successfully performed on stages in the former USSR and other countries become.
His wife, Irena Ginzburg-Zhurbin, was born in Moscow as the daughter of the famous German studies scholar, writer and translator Lev Ginsburg. She herself translated numerous poems from German classics into Russian and writes poems and songs. The couple lives in New York and Moscow and performs worldwide.
