This workshop invites you into the world of Afro-Somatic techniques. The deconstruction of the Afro-Urban dance style—a synthesis of traditional West African dances, Caribbean dance from Haiti and Cuba, and Western contemporary dance—conveys a sense of freedom for both body and mind.
Afro-Somatic focuses on grounding, breathing, and flexibility, and is a constant dialogue between the cosmos and nature. Improvisation and musical accompaniment, as well as the powerful elements of African dance—such as energy, rhythm, grounded movement, and elevation—play an essential role.
Participants are asked to bring a loincloth or a large scarf that is at least one meter long.
