From 9 to 11 October 2026, the LA46 Film Festival will once again bring stories of people from south-west Berlin to the screen at the Thalia Cinema. Twenty-four films have been selected from almost 40 submissions – ranging from professional productions to works by beginners.

All films are in the running for one of five prizes, four of which will be awarded in different categories by a jury that includes, amongst others, radio presenter Gerlinde Jänicke and actor Raphael Vogt.
The films originate from south-west Berlin or were shot by people from the region. Their themes take viewers not only through the neighbourhood, but also far beyond: for example, to Nepal, into personal memories, into Berlin’s history and into a wide variety of lifestyles.
The programme ranges from short films and documentaries to interviews with eyewitnesses and biographical stories, right through to music videos by artists from the neighbourhood. Highlights include an amateur short film shot on Super 8 in the 1970s, featuring kung fu scenes in the community park, and a film about American veterans who returned to Berlin in 2012 for the first time since the withdrawal of the Allied forces. Other films recount formative life stories, preserve personal memories and showcase new music from the neighbourhood. The first women’s team of FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin is also featured in a film.
Each of the 24 films will be screened twice during the festival. Tickets cost 6 euros and will be available online and directly at the Thalia Kino from Friday 11 September.
“The large number of submissions shows just how keen people are to tell their own stories through film – and just how creative south-west Berlin is,” says festival organiser Patrick Meyer. “Our programme brings together very different perspectives: sometimes historical, sometimes personal, sometimes experimental, but always with a connection
to the people and issues of our region.”

The LA46 Film Festival was launched in 2024 and will take place for the third time in October 2026 at the Thalia Cinema in Lankwitz. It provides a platform for local filmmakers and screens documentaries, short films and cinematic experiments with a connection to south-west Berlin.
