Parade of Köpenick captains
Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt was born on 13 February 1849. The shoemaker from East Prussia became known as the Captain of Köpenick. To mark the 175th anniversary of his birth, a parade of Köpenick captains took place in front of Köpenick Town Hall.
Disguised as a captain, Wilhelm Voigt forced his way into Köpenick Town Hall with a troop of soldiers, arrested the mayor and robbed the town treasury. This coup made him famous throughout the empire.
His 175th birthday will be celebrated in 2024. The Tourismusverein Berlin Treptow-Köpenick e.V. invites you to commemorate the Hauptmann anniversary together on Tuesday, 13 February at 11:00 am in front of Köpenick Town Hall.
During the parade, Köpenick captains such as Heiko Stang and Benno Radtke as well as captain's guards including Gert Bölke and a captain's cake from master baker Rainer Schwadtke from the Dresdner Feinbäckerei and cobbler boys will be invited for a late breakfast.
