A queer flirting performance by flirts&friends

Through music, dance, and their bodies, four performers embark on a quest to discover what flirting is—or perhaps what it could still be? They share their own experiences, experiment, feel their way forward—and try to hold their own against each other’s gazes.

I see you. I like you. I’m interested in you.

I want to make you laugh. You make me nervous.

I want to give you little things. Is this flirting? Are we flirting right now?

Using music, text, and their bodies, the performers set out in search of answers. the spark explores the spontaneous, the interpersonal, the exciting, and asks: what could flirting be if it’s more than just a stepping stone on the path to marriage or sex? If it’s fun, loving, aimless, and non-linear?

“the spark” explores flirting as a queer practice outside of heteropatriarchal narratives.

The four performers offer each other a safe space in which they playfully approach one another, feel their way forward, and search for a new language of flirtation. They share their own anecdotes, look deeply into each other’s eyes, and blush as they try to hold their gaze…
