Historic Christmas train of the Berlin S-Bahn
Christmas journeys on all Advent weekends in 2025
Experience a nostalgic round trip through Berlin. In the historic Christmas train of the Berlin S-Bahn, you will travel through the capital as you did almost 100 years ago and enjoy Christmas treats and surprises on board.
Festively decorated, the Christmas trains roll into the stations. The historic carriages alone are a real eye-catcher. Decorated with fir greenery and glittering gold garlands, the lovingly prepared trains carry the pre-Christmas spirit through the whole city.
What can visitors expect?
You can look forward to an atmospheric journey through time: The train set dates back to 1928 and 1938 and is festively decorated especially for the Advent season. During the journey via the Stadtbahn, Ringbahn, Wannseebahn or even as far as Oranienburg, you can enjoy mulled wine or children's punch and savour delicious stollen.
In the souvenir compartment , you also have the opportunity to buy one or two special gifts away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping centre. Nobody on board is in a hurry. A relaxed holiday atmosphere prevails on the Christmas train. And if you're lucky, you might even meet Father Christmas.
How long do the journeys last?
The journeys last around 60 to 90 minutes and take place on Saturdays (three journeys) and Sundays (two journeys) on all four Advent weekends. Each route is different - sometimes it goes through the south of Berlin, sometimes to Wartenberg or Hoppegarten.
A special highlight in 2025 is the 40th anniversary of the route to Wartenberg, which will be celebrated on 21 December with a special tour from Grunewald .
Who is the Christmas train particularly suitable for?
Get on board if you are enthusiastic about historic railways, want to surprise your family with an unusual Berlin experience or want to experience the capital from a completely different perspective. And of course, a trip on the Christmas train is also perfect for a romantic getaway.
