In the heart of Kreuzberg, on the historic Dragonerareal site, stands GRETCHEN – a club that embodies Berlin's love of musical experimentation like no other. Behind the walls of a listed building dating from 1854, once the stables of the Prussian 1st Guard Dragoon Regiment, history and the present combine to create one of the city's most exciting music venues.

A passion for experimentation with the highest musical quality

Among international music lovers, GRETCHEN is considered one of Berlin's most outstanding venues. Named after one of the most complex characters in German literature, the club, founded in 2011, is dedicated to musical diversity and bringing opposites together. Following the cutting-edge principle , musical openness, genre diversity and artistic ambition are practised here. Spanning two floors and a small backyard, the programme ranges from drum 'n' bass, dubstep, trap, funk, soul, jazz, Afrobeats and live electronic acts to singer-songwriter evenings and avant-garde performances.

Excellent live music in the historic halls of GRETCHEN

The two floors of GRETCHEN, Box 1 and Box 2, are located in the listed building between cast-iron columns and wide cross vaults. The music history written here has earned the club numerous awards. GRETCHEN has received the federal Applaus Prize several times for its consistently diverse programme, most recently in 2023 as Germany's best live music programme.

Your visit to GRETCHEN

GRETCHEN is located not far from Mehringdamm. You can easily reach the club by taking the U6 or U7 to Mehringdamm – from there it's only about a five-minute walk. Alternatively, bus lines 140 and M19 stop very close by. Its location in the heart of Kreuzberg makes GRETCHEN the ideal starting point for an evening in the neighbourhood: there are numerous bars, restaurants and the popular Viktoriapark with its waterfall and viewpoint on Kreuzberg hill in the surrounding area .
