Yorckschlösschen

The nights in Kreuzberg are full of sound.

The Yorckschlösschen is a jazz venue with a summer garden. It is located in the middle of the busiest part of Kreuzberg and is slightly elevated.

The Yorckschlösschen is possibly the music pub in Kreuzberg with the longest and most colourful tradition. Because that tradition is evident in every detail here. When you enter the bar, you might feel as if you've been teleported to a music venue on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The walls and columns are densely decorated with musical memorabilia. Stucco, chandeliers and wood panelling create a nostalgic atmosphere. In the middle is the stage, bordered by a wooden railing. The audience is only an arm's length away. The concerts at the Yorckschlösschen are correspondingly intense.

Kreuzberg's heart chamber for handmade music

Live concerts take place every evening from Wednesday to Sunday. Admission is free. You can express your enthusiasm and joy for the music by passing around a collection hat. This supports the predominantly local musicians who make great music on the Yorckschlösschen stage. They shine in genres such as jazz, blues, soul and rhythm and blues. Operator Olaf Dähmlow puts it this way in an interview: "We offer everything that has black roots and colourful blossoms."

If you are interested in a concert, you should reserve a seat a few days before the date. Spontaneous visits are always possible, but the Yorckschlösschen may already be full. And full is a good description of the atmosphere in the jazz pub: the cramped space creates intimacy, people strike up conversations, and when the band plays, the mood rises rapidly.

Deeply rooted in the neighbourhood

In the 1960s, the Yorckschlösschen was a normal Berlin corner pub. It still fulfils this function today. In addition to live music, you can always enjoy hearty cuisine with large portions at fair prices. It is important to the owners, Olaf Dähmlow and Michael Geisler, that the local crowd feels at home. But the solid foundation of regulars is supplemented daily by a surprisingly young crowd that has discovered the pub for themselves. The Yorckschlösschen does not want to be a trendy pub or party location, but rather to continue developing its proven mix of old love and new enthusiasm for honest, handmade music.

Our tips

  • Reserve your concert seats online a few days in advance – and then make sure you show up, otherwise you risk being blacklisted.
  • If you arrive in good time before the concert starts, you'll have enough time to look at the many music memorabilia in the Yorckschlösschen. It's worth it.
  • In summer, the Yorckschlösschen garden beckons with cool drinks and fast service.
  • Before (or after) your visit, the Park am Gleisdreieck and the nearby Bergmannstraße are ideal for a stroll.
