you won't find "Kreuzkölln" on any official map - and yet almost every Berliner knows this neighbourhood. On the invisible border between Kreuzberg and Neukölln, between Landwehrkanal and Sonnenallee, one of the city's liveliest neighbourhoods has developed. Here, the energy of long-established Berliners mixes with the creativity of artists, students and newcomers from all over the world. It is a place where opposites meet and weave themselves into a unique mosaic. The centre of the neighbourhood pulsates along Weserstraße and Hobrechtstraße.
Weserstraße is one of the most diverse streets in Berlin, where people party, shop and feast. Many bars and restaurants, as well as sophisticated boutiques, have settled here over the years. Small, often inconspicuous locations are particularly popular, serving surprisingly good drinks. Classics include Ä with its living room charm or Tier with its really delicious cocktails. But there is also the 19:77 bar with its Ramones Museum and vegan menu, as well as the independent Wolf cinema. On warm evenings, people sit on the kerb with a glass of wine and the whole street is transformed into a lively open-air festival.
In Reuterkiez, as the area around Reuterplatz is known, the raw charm of Neukölln mixes with international influences - from Arabic cuisine to vegan bistros and minimalist designer shops. And of course there are also numerous bars, including Oblomov with live music and Geist im Glas with drinks for brunch. Finally, there are cosy restaurants and cafés around the Maybachufer for a relaxed evening. Enjoy the view of the romantic banks of the Landwehr Canal with its numerous old buildings. The Ankerklause with its jukebox is a Berlin institution. Quentin Tarantino is said to have partied there during the filming of "Inglorious Basterds".
A little further south, at the Rathaus Neukölln underground station, you can enjoy a fantastic view over Berlin from the top car park level of the Neukölln Arcaden. The Klunkerkranich is a spacious roof terrace with lots of greenery and casual, improvised bars and installations that encourage day and night dreaming. experimental music and cultural events await you at Donau 115 or Paolo Pinkel. You can find even more culture directly on Karl-Marx-Alle at Heimathafen Neukölln or at CANK. And on the site of the former Kindl brewery you will find the KINDL Centre for Contemporary Art and Berlin's largest queer club, SchwuZ.
What's the best way to get to Weserstraße?
Weserstraße is located between the underground stations Schönleinstraße (U8), Rathaus Neukölln (U7) and Herrmannplatz (U7+U8). It takes about 10 minutes to walk to Weserstraße. You can take the M41 bus from the main railway station or Potsdamer Platz to Fuldastraße. Night owls can also take the N7 after midnight during the week, as the Berlin underground does not run all night on weekdays.
And finally, one more request:
Of course it can be lively in the evening - but please remember: at some point, even Berliners want to sleep, after all, most of them have work the next day. That's why we ask you to be considerate of neighbouring residents and keep the noise down after 10 pm.
