Where the queer scene celebrates
Christopher Street Day attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to Berlin once a year. However, the city offers a diverse programme for the LGBTQ+ community not only in summer, but all year round. Whether large clubs, intimate bars or legendary party series - there is always something going on here.
One of the best-known addresses is the traditional SchwuZ in Neukölln. With several dance floors, the iconic Pepsi Boston Bar and changing shows by Berlin's most famous drag queens, it is an integral part of the scene - but is currently facing financial problems.
Berghain with its Panorama Bar, the excessive KitKatClub with the Revolver Party and GEGEN, or SO36 in Kreuzberg, where the Gayhane series has been bringing the queer community together for decades, are internationally famous.
Another highlight is Clärchens Ballhaus in Mitte - a venue steeped in tradition that also hosts queer dance evenings and community events. Monster Ronson's Ichiban Karaoke on Warschauer Straße, which is home to karaoke, drag shows and queer nights, also enjoys cult status.
In addition to these permanent institutions, party series also characterise the scene, such as PORNCEPTUAL, which combines queer techno and art, Cocktail d'Amore with its magical Sunday nights or Buttons, which stands for excessive, queer club nights. Girls Town, a queer FLINTA* format, is also firmly anchored in the club landscape.
You can go out gay and lesbian - or rather queer - almost anywhere in Berlin these days. The city thrives on its diversity, openness and love of experimentation - and makes every night an experience.
