Sasha Waltz

For the first time in over 10 years, “Zweiland” is returning to the stage: the choreography by Sasha Waltz, which premiered in the Sophiensæle in 1997, unfolds a poetic approach towards the theme of “Pictures from Germany” against the backdrop of a symbolic wall: Rhythmic movement sequences interact with the pulsing life force of a Berlin street - Sasha Waltz tells the story of an era of social upheaval and departure in post-reunification Germany as if it were a fairytale.

Growing together, togetherness and rupture, despair - “Zweiland” reflects societal conditions on an interpersonal level, allowing them to be experienced directly. Absurd everyday situations alternate with character studies and fairytale images.

Seven performers interpret German songs from different centuries, allowing music and dance to merge into one.

Sasha Waltz’s early choreographies are filled with imaginative and surreal stories, which draw their strength from the banality of everyday life.

The things that move us most deeply inspire energetic movement studies. Her works take us on a journey through the most diverse emotional and dream worlds.
