The composer Kurt Schwaen

Composer Kurt Schwaen (1909-2007) shaped musical life in the GDR like no other. Together with Bertolt Brecht, Günter Kunert and many other writers, he wrote countless songs and cantatas, composed for children and adults, created unusual chamber music and orchestral works, set to music, among other things, the film "The Gleiwitz Case" and campaigned in various organizations for his professional colleagues. It was only with great luck that the convinced communist survived the Nazi dictatorship. After the war he committed himself with great dedication to the reconstruction of musical life.
