Festival für neue Musik von Deutschlandfunk Kultur und radio3 vom rbb

For a long time, and still today, attention has been drawn to the social relevance and social responsibility of contemporary art and music. Out of the ivory tower, into life and into cultural-political debates. Alongside this is the musical work as an aesthetic artifact. And the freedom of composers or composer-performers to concentrate entirely on the sound.

"Absolute music", i.e. music that stands for itself and is free of extra-musical content, was the motto of the Biennale Musica in Venice in 2024. Terminologically, such a term may raise questions, but as a metaphor for the "freedom of music" that Ferruccio Busoni passionately defended, it can trigger a highly topical debate. It is not about playing both positions off against each other, but about dialogue and the potential of dialectical thinking. And about how artists (can) free themselves from expectations again and again.

This field of tension has shaped the program of the Ultraschall Berlin Festival in recent years and forms the thematic framework for the artist talk “Change of Perspective”.
