Theseus, the legendary king of Athens, has ventured into the underworld to free a friend. No man can escape from this world of death without divine help.
Theseus, however, is still alive, and he has three wishes from his father Neptune, the god of the sea. The third of them brings him back to earth. Before that, however, the Parcenes - mysterious beings who can see into the future - have foretold his fate. At home, he will meet his young wife Phaedra and his grown-up son Hippolyte again.
Whether this is under a lucky or unlucky star remains to be seen ...
