Peppi Guggenheim’s ‘Exil’ music programme @ Little Stage Bar, Neukölln

SUPERSALAD blends jazz tradition with a modern sound and songwriting that captures the pulse of Berlin. Four musicians, composers, arrangers and bandleaders – their diverse musical styles are united by a shared vision of sound.

Lyrical soundscapes blend with powerful urban grooves, catchy melodies with irregular time signatures and deconstructive collective improvisations. Supersalad perform exclusively their own compositions, written by all four band members, in the classic line-up of an organ jazz quartet. The band has been performing in Berlin and across Germany since 2010 and, over many years of collaboration, has developed a unique, distinctive sound. Further information and audio samples are available at:

SUPERSALAD are:

  • Jan von Klewitz – sax
  • Paul Peuker – guitar
  • Ben von Poser – keys
  • Thomas Fülbier – drums

JAN VON KLEWITZ (sax):

Jan von Klewitz and his alto saxophone have been a fixture on the Berlin jazz scene for many years and can be heard on numerous releases on ACT, Sony, Universal and Traumton (e.g. with Nils Wülker, Kaleidoscope, Thärichen’s Tentett). After completing his studies at the Cologne University of Music, von Klewitz performed with the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra alongside Alexander von Schlippenbach, Evan Parker and Aki Takase, and is a member of the Franco-German Jazz Ensemble. In addition to numerous theatre and radio productions, the saxophonist also works as a composer and arranger for Yakou Tribe and Spiritual Standards, with whom he has toured in the USA, South America, Singapore and Africa, amongst other places.

PAUL PEUKER (guitar):

Paul Peuker, born in 1987 in Freiberg, Saxony, discovered the guitar as a young teenager, inspired by bands such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Whilst studying at the Dresden University of Music, he discovered jazz and developed a second passion: composition. Following his degree in jazz guitar, he went on to complete a Master’s in composition. Active and successful with his own projects such as Axiom and Peuker8, he already has several releases on renowned jazz labels to his name.

BEN VON POSER (keys):

Ben von Poser grew up in Berlin, Freiburg and Hamburg; after completing his studies at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, he moved to Berlin. Through his professor Matthias Bätzel and lessons with Joey deFrancesco, he developed a particular affinity for the Hammond organ and bebop. As a keyboardist with various soul and jazz ensembles in Berlin, the pianist developed a keen sense for sounds and modern sonic concepts. Ben von Poser has appeared in various studio and theatre productions (e.g. Staatsschauspiel Dresden).

THOMAS FÜLBIER (dr):

Thanks to his sense of groove and feel, combined with great musical sensitivity, Thomas Fülbier is a much sought-after accompanist on the Berlin jazz scene. As a soloist, he combines dynamic, intuitive energy with clear melodic and motivic structures. Having grown up amidst the urban hustle and bustle of Berlin, he studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music there and at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He is the founder of SUPERSALAD and plays in a wide variety of projects, including the Berlin Jazz Award-winning Son y Salsa Club Orquesta, as well as in studio, radio and theatre productions (Berliner Ensemble, Komische Oper).
