Historische Kleidungspraktiken zwischen Modeteilhabe und textiler Nachhaltigkeit

Up until around the middle of the 20th century, the reworking and further use of clothing was a common textile practice. Not only was the “lifespan” of clothing extended considerably, the context in which it was worn also changed and shifted.

What traces of this can still be traced today, what techniques and historical concepts of preservation can be identified and in which social classes did they play a role?

Preserved items of clothing from several museum collections form the basis of an object-based research project that approaches the phenomenon of reworking in the period 1800 to 1950 and explores forms of textile sustainability between fashion participation and material availability.
