After the
great success of Stephan v. Bothmer last year's "Imagination" concert at
CineTronium, he went one better with live visuals.
The concert
is created entirely in the moment - the two artists do not discuss each other
before the concert - and also draws the audience completely into the moment
without yesterday and tomorrow.
Schizophrenia doesn't just lull itself into
beautiful sounds, but rather takes up the turmoil of today's times in stark contrasts.
So it's not
about the illness, but about the inspiration from the meaning of the word,
about irreconcilable opposites, from the very personal to world politics.
Stephen v.
Bothmer plays his CineTronium, an electronic musical instrument that he developed
specifically for live film music. Included are the most modern synthesizer ever
(Osmose) and one of the oldest (EMS Logic).
He is
currently writing the first piano school for Osmose, because it opens up
expressive possibilities that go beyond anything previously available - but
only if you develop absolutely outstanding, adapted finger dexterity, which in
turn is far more complex than playing techniques on the grand piano. Stephan is
the only musician who plays a version with two manuals.
With his spectacular silent film concerts, Stephan Graf v. Bothmer fills theaters and
concert halls on five continents. He has performed at the Schleswig-Holstein
Festival and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, as well as in Berlin at the
Admiralspalast, the Wintergarten Varieté and the Berlin Cathedral, as well as
at the Rock-Pop Festival at Tempelhof Airport after Björk, Blur and the Pet
Shop Boys.
Bothmer's
compositions are characterized by an irrepressible joy of playing and
virtuosity that combines echoes of Chopin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd and
electronic music in a unique way.
