FOUR INTERNATIONAL COMPOSERS AND THE BEST YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA IN BERLIN: A feature for creators of the current jazz scene and up-and-coming artists at the Maschinenhaus.

The Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra plays new works by Monta Tupčijenko, Claudia Dörffinger, Jhoely Garay and Laura Velti, which the musicians from Latvia, Germany, New York and Italy have written especially for this large and unusual line-up.

With their talent and their very individual voices, the young musicians of the BJJO form a unique body of sound in which the classical line-up has been expanded to include instruments unfamiliar to jazz, such as a string quartet, vocal ensemble and accordion.

The project, supported by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, enables the international musicians and the young orchestra to meet, work together on the four new compositions and present them on 27 October in the Maschinenhaus.

In addition to the new compositions, the BJJO will also play pieces by its artistic directors Fabia Mantwill and Nicolai Thärichen, whose works are characterised by openness and inclusivity and break down creative boundaries.
