Cullberg / Ligia Lewis
In this piece, the renowned company Cullberg is collaborating with choreographer Ligia Lewis for the first time. Lewis often deals with power relations and discusses how they influence the body as well as how the body resists them.
In “Some Thing Folk” she establishes a new, utopian vision of belonging that turns away from the notion of nationhood and expands the concept of national identity. Aleksei German’s film adaption of the science fiction novel “Hard to Be a God” serves as her visual inspiration. Alienation and distancing become tools to allow our thoughts to wander, and dance becomes a means to unfold our imagination.
