Three modules on six dates (with Aya Scheikh-Suleiman and Michel Dahdal)

Aya and Michel came to Germany from Syria as teenagers. They first visited the Jewish Museum Berlin as part of their integration course for deaf refugees. Due to their own experiences of flight, exclusion and new beginnings, they find that aspects of German-Jewish history as told in the permanent exhibition and through the Libeskind architecture are familiar to them. In three modules, Aya and Michel connect their impressions of the exhibition with their personal experiences and talk about belonging, arriving, love, loss and longing.

The courses take place in German sign language and are simultaneously interpreted into spoken German language. Participants will discover different aspects of the new permanent exhibition of the Jewish Museum Berlin. They’ll learn to speak their first sentences in sign language by engaging with the architecture and selected objects.

Three modules are offered on six dates. The modules build on each other but can also be booked separately. They are aimed at both hearing and deaf people.
