Sichtbar gemacht – Neues zur Maltechnik Caspar David Friedrichs

To mark the anniversary year of Caspar David Friedrich, the nine paintings by this famous Romantic artist in the SPSG's collection were analysed in terms of art technology. The results reveal the special materials and techniques of the canvas supports, Friedrich's methods for transferring preparatory drawings to the painting ground and his individual painting style, and confirm his extraordinary skill. The methods of research and the discoveries are reported in the conservators' studio.
