exploring soil and climate, urban ecosystems and crops
The approximately 2,000 m² grain field is a living work of art at the Berlin Wall Memorial and contributes its part to urban nature. In the former border strip on Bernauer Strasse, it stands as a symbol of life and diversity as well as overcoming fear and violence in this historic place.
Present today are the initiators of this project and scientists from the Albrecht Daniel Thaer Institute for Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at Humboldt University. Get in touch and learn more about the special features of the city soil, the practice of rye cultivation and the interactions between rye stocks, weather and climate in inner-city areas.
With small explorations and experiments, you can learn more about rye in the ecosystem and the development of urban soils and urban climate at the historical site.
