A lecture-performance with two pianos - Ming Wong
At a time of growing tensions between the U.S. and China, the piece tells of what is known as Chinese-American ping-pong diplomacy. Based on a piano competition and a table tennis match, pianists Ben Kim and Mark Taratushkin explore the role of European classical music, modernism and myth-making in the rise of both nations in the 20th century in this ping-pong double concert.
The work was commissioned by steirischer herbst '22 and Singapore Art Museum, produced by steirischer herbst '22, and premiered in Graz in September 2022.
