20 years of the Tiergarten Art Association

The Tiergarten Art Association is turning 20. To celebrate this anniversary, a special publication and exhibition project is planned that brings together the names of all 2193 people and institutions that have actively participated in exhibitions and events at Galerie Nord over the past two decades.

RE:VISION celebrates the Tiergarten Art Association as a living organism and network of local, national and international partners that promotes the synergy of thoughts, initiatives and resources as well as the circulation of people and ideas. Visitors can expect an immersive, participatory installation that evolves without curatorial control - leading to an exhibition with a completely new look.

The exhibition is based on the complete edition of the publication RE:VISION, which is presented in an installation by the Berlin artist Marten Schech. Each book on display is an archive, contemporary document and exhibition object in one.

520 artists responded to the art association's call and submitted images of their work for the picture section of the book.

During the exhibition, artists are invited to exchange an exhibited copy of the book for a work of art on loan. Sculptures, paintings, collages, prints, video works, etc. enter into dialogue, and visitors can actively influence the exhibition by leafing through the books.

By turning the pages and allowing the numerous participants to temporarily appear and disappear, they recombine countless variations of asynchronous moments from the art association's 20-year history. The installation changes continuously until it has taken on a completely new appearance at the end.

During the exhibition, performances, concerts, guided tours and a discussion on the relevance of art associations are planned.

The Tiergarten art association was founded in 2004 and launched its exhibition program in the Galerie Nord in the same year in cooperation with the Berlin-Mitte district. At that time, Moabit was hardly known on Berlin's cultural map. 20 years later, new art spaces and outstanding institutions have established themselves, and many artists have settled in the neighborhood. The fact that Moabit has become a culturally vibrant and diverse place is also thanks to the achievements of the Tiergarten Art Association, which has received national and international recognition far beyond Berlin with its socially critical and cross-genre program in the Galerie Nord and in the Moabit urban space.

The publication and exhibition project RE:VISION is a thank you to everyone who has worked in front of and behind the scenes, supported and promoted projects, shown their commitment and campaigned for the preservation of the Tiergarten Art Association and thus contributed to its reputation
