The historical legacy of Chancellors Brandt and Schmidt

The chancellorships of Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt have had a lasting impact on society and politics in the Federal Republic. But how do people remember the first two social democratic chancellors?

What remains of them and their government practices and policies, and can anything be derived from this for dealing with current political challenges? How have the political style and crisis management in the Chancellery changed over the past five decades?

These questions will be discussed by a top-class panel at the conference “Change of Chancellor in 1974: The Federal Republic between reform policy and crisis management”.

Guests include: the historian Hélène Miard-Delacroix, the journalist Albrecht von Lucke and the historian Dietmar Süß. The moderation is the responsibility of the journalist Korbinian Frenzel.

Please register via the conference website.

The panel discussion will be broadcast as a live stream on the foundation's YouTube channel.
