Performance · Premiere by Alex Piasente-Szymański In the frame of Fold - Resonant Threads
Recess is both an interruption and a secret place. Recess is the preparation for what is to come, not visible at first glance. Recess is organised doing nothing.
The solo performance ”In Recess” deals with the space between labour and pausing, as well as the possibility of refusing to do something. What would it mean not to get lost in work while the world is on fire?
Taking pausing as a starting point, Alex Piasente-Szymański uses voice, sound and body to develop a choreography of shared reflection. Does the discourse become the performance or the performance become the discourse?
”In Recess” is a proposal to think together about questions of work in times of crisis. Can art contribute to change at all in the way we produce it? What remains of art if they close ourselves off to its poetic character? How can they continue in a meaningful way?
