Reading and conversation with Nadire Biskin and Behzad Karim Khani

On March 26, 2023, the new reading series "Literatur Aktion Wedding" will start at Ballhaus Prinzenallee. In four events from March to December 2023, a mixture of (staged) readings and talks will highlight the diverse relationships between society and literature and the socio-cultural contexts of migration, emancipation and class.

The kick-off event on March 26 will feature Nadire Biskin, an author and teacher who grew up and lives in Berlin-Wedding, and her debut novel "Ein Spiegel für mein Gegenüber" (A Mirror for My Opposite), published by dtv in 2022.

At the second event on April 30, the writer Behzad Karim Khani will be the guest with his debut novel "Hund, Wolf, Schakal" published by Hanser Berlin in 2022.

In the first part of the evening, the actors Franziska Krol, Jonas Broxtermann and Christian Bojidar will read literary collages from works by other authors, which the guest has selected in advance according to the principle of the reading series "Readings in Context". The themes are language and uprooting, family and society, rebellion and violence.

In the second part of the evening, the respective guest presents the debut novel he or she has brought along.

Nadire Biskin presents the novel "A Mirror for My Opposite", in which the protagonist Huzur, "educational climber" from Wedding with Turkish roots, is confronted with life-changing decisions: Does she take up the fight with the rigid school system or does she abandon her traineeship as a teacher? Can she take on the responsibility for a Syrian girl who has fled on her own?

Behzad Karim Khani reads from his debut novel "Dog, Wolf, Jackal" about the arrival of eleven-year-old Saam, his little brother Nima and their father in Berlin-Neukölln after their flight during the tumult of the Iranian Revolution.

The readings will be followed by a discussion with the authors and Martin Zähringer, the moderator and curator of the reading series "Literatur Aktion Wedding".
