GÁL, KODÁLY, MESSIAEN

Opening a colorful evening of chamber music, Guy Braunstein, Sacha Rattle, and Zvi Plessner perform the richly melodic Serenade by Austrian-Hungarian composer Hans Gál. For Olivier Messiaen’s celebrated musical exploration of the “end of times,” the three musicians are joined by Sir Simon Rattle at the piano. Zoltán Kodály’s Duo for Violin and Cello, written in 1914 and inspired by the composer’s research of Hungarian folk music, completes the program.
