At 17 kilometers, the longest inner-city section of the Berlin Wall ran along Treptow's district border with Neukölln and Kreuzberg. Of the at least 140 people who died in connection with the Berlin Wall, 23 lost their lives in Treptow alone, including the three children Wolfgang Glöde, Lothar Schleusener and Jörg Hartmann.

The walk leads through Kiefholzstraße, Heidelberger Straße, Bouchéstraße and Harzer Straße, among others, and thus to places where escapes were successful or escape attempts ended tragically.
