The evening kicks off with Minka (Philipp Appel (bass), Paula Klein (vocals), Sandro Cecchin (guitar)). What began in 2019 with a handful of songs and a gig at the bar >La Minga< quickly became a musical project with its own distinctive style: Minka, named after Paula’s cat. Since then, they’ve been building a growing presence on the Berlin music scene – both at intimate living-room gigs and on small, characterful stages (like ours). Stylistically, the band moves between introspective indie, experimental soundscapes and melancholic playfulness.
Somewhere between PJ Harvey, Fink, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and dark wave influences, Minka have developed a sound all of their own: atmospheric, grounded and emotionally accessible.
Next up are Bad Peaches. Carro (guitar), Cuco (bass), Rana (drums) and Yam (vocals, guitar) are from Argentina but all ended up making Berlin their adopted home in order to get to know one another. Punk and alternative rock are right up their street. Their songs, in English, German and Spanish, combine powerful riffs, catchy melodies and direct lyrics. The themes range from social issues and feminism to injustices and situations from everyday life.
Afterwards, there’ll be a DJ set so you can have a proper dance. You might recognise DJ Off-Beast from his musical journey from Kingston to Berlin at the Revolte Bar. He’s been providing the perfect soundtrack there for the ‘Ska Soiree’ on a regular basis for around two years. Classic ska and rocksteady from the 60s and 70s form the foundation of his sets, though he also welcomes contemporary artists into his mixes. And then there’s his great love of German punk.
Sonic Sisters Society, a Berlin-based FLINTA* DJ collective, will bring the evening to a rousing close. When they were founded in 2024, they made it their mission to make the city’s underground music scene more diverse. And the collective’s 11 DJs are currently doing a pretty good job of that, they reckon. All with a focus on non-techno styles, such as psychedelic rock, garage, punk, disco, funk, alternative rock, etc. At PiNK moves, Natalie (Witchwatching) and Whywolf bring a bit of disco energy to punk – and vice versa. You can count on that.
