Viktor Remizov und Franziska Zwerg • Buchpremiere

The novel is set between 1949 and 1953 in the remote Siberian settlement of Yermakovo, where Stalin ordered a monumental but pointless construction project. With up to 120,000 Gulag prisoners, a 1,500-kilometer-long railway line was to be built through the taiga and swamps to the Arctic Circle in order to connect the lower reaches of the Yenisei with the Northern Urals. The project becomes a powerful metaphor for Stalin's totalitarianism.

An epic about the eternally human and political: in line with Solzhenitsyn and Tolstoy.
