Perfomance Festival of the Berlin Art Week
From 13 September to 17 September, the Neue Nationalgalerie presents historical and contemporary performances, including Yoko Ono and Göksu Kunak.
As part of Berlin Art Week, numerous events will take place at the Kulturforum. In addition to guided tours, installations and discussions, the Neue Nationalgalerie is once again hosting the festival: PERFORM!
programme:
YOKO ONO'S "CUT PIECE"
12 September to 17 September | 5 pm
Yoko Ono's historic performance "Cut Piece" from 1964 is one of her earliest performance works: here the artist sat alone, in her best clothes, on the floor with a pair of scissors in front of her. The audience was instructed to take turns approaching her and using the scissors to cut off a small piece of her clothing, which they were then allowed to keep. For Berlin Art Week, the Neue Nationalgalerie is collaborating with Studio Yoko Ono and Berlin-based performers will perform the work at the front of the upper hall.
GÖKSU KUNAK "VENUS"
16 September | 7:45 pm
Göksu Kunak will show her new production "VENUS", commissioned for PERFORM! on the terrace of the Neue Nationalgalerie. "VENUS" is a site-specific, symbolically overloaded hyper assemblage, a performative installation about clichés - especially about immigration, movement, being stuck, restriction, speed or slowing down. The work uses references from films, music videos as well as Fluxus, happenings and historical representations of Venus.
FESTIVAL CLOSING
16 September | 4 to 9 pm
The festival will close with a performance afternoon. The programme will be announced later.
