Photographic views from Klosterstraße in sepia, black and white and color.
On February 3, 1945, bombs put an end to the development of the Berlin Gymnasium into the Graues Kloster on Klosterstrasse. Berlin's oldest grammar school was located in the former Franciscan monastery from 1574 to 1945. Photographs have documented the transformation of the school complex for over 165 years.
Today, after wartime destruction and demolition (until 1968), only the ruins of the monastery church remind us of this "total work of art" in the Berlin cityscape.
Ines Hahn, the director of the photographic collection of the Berlin City Museum, and Susanne Knackmuß, curator of the Streitschen Foundation, invite you to take a walk through Berlin photography around the traditional Graues Kloster.
