Over the last 15 years, a lively game theatre scene has emerged in Germany. Plays that make use of digital means and computer game practices, incorporate interactive elements and offer their audiences various storylines have long been produced not only in the off-scene, but also at festivals and in municipal theatres.
Today, machina eX's projects are created in a productive environment of many collaborators with whom the collective is in dialogue, discusses the content and framework conditions of the still young genre and supports each other.
On the occasion of its 15th anniversary, the collective wants to take a step back and reflect on the conditions of its work on stage.
To this end, machina eX has invited three companions who are connected to the phenomenon of game theatre in different ways:
dramaturge Katja Grawinkel-Claassen, theatre critic Christian Rakow and theatre maker, sound artist and programmer Georg Werner.
Together with presenter Carolin Gerlach, the guests look back on the beginnings of game theatre, reflect on the status quo and ask themselves what conditions the theatre form needs in order to continue to find and surprise audiences in the future.
