Movie night: British Berlinale war film with German subtitles (OmU)
A work of art that won the Berlinale Jury's Special Prize in 1975 and has an impressively simple plot: a young Briton is drafted into the army and undergoes basic training. On "D-Day" (June 6, 1944) he has his first mission.
He's in the landing craft bound for the Normandy coast. Official wartime footage from the archives of the Imperial War Museum in London is seamlessly blended with feature film scenes. The poetically told story of an average recruit thus gains its believable and authentic contours.
