by Peter Hacks
I complain. Everyone calls me Hercules. Even the ancient Romans called me that, but that's not my name. I'm Greek. My name is Heracles. Two long E's and the emphasis on the last syllable.
I appear in OMPHALE by Peter Hacks after I have defeated the dangerous lion Leo II. Omphale (the emphasis is on the second syllable and the long E at the end) bought me as a slave. That's how crazy things are in our Greek mythological world. Omphale is Queen of Lydia. Her empire roughly corresponds to the province of Izmir in modern-day Turkey.
Omphale and I fall in love. (What else?) We swap clothes and gender and have completely new, unexpected experiences! Nevertheless: We have to deal with the monster Lityerses. Wherever his breath hits, all life dies!
