The Musical

With heart, humour and her incomparable voice, Steffi Irmen enchants audiences and interprets classic Shakespeare like no other.

On the Fridays when the musical ‘Romeo & Juliet’ is not playing, Steffi Irmen will conquer the stage with the new musical ‘The Nurse’.

Steffi Irmen, the star of the Theater des Westens (Romeo & Juliet /Ku'damm 59), slips into what is probably her most iconic role: ‘The Nurse’.

And this time we learn the true story of Romeo and Juliet - with a good dose of humour. Steffi Irmen uncovers what Shakespeare has kept from us and ensures that there is not a dry eye in the house.

With music by Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, she reveals all the secrets that remain untold in the main play.

The musical will be directed by Franziska Kuropka and Lukas Nimscheck.

The character of the nurse (Shakespeare):

The nurse is a widow and has had no education: she can only count to 4 and can neither read nor write. She asks Romeo whether ‘rosemary and Romeo’ begin with the same letter and plays up her ignorance with humour. She therefore also belongs to the lower classes because of her job as a servant. However, she still occupies a special position within this low social class, as she has a servant herself, which is unusual for wet nurses.

The nurse is Juliet's closest confidante and acts as an intermediary between Romeo and Juliet.
