Just as light & shadow play with each other on the summer Kastellan meadow at Schönhausen Palace, these two contrasts can also be found in the music of the Baroque period with its often nature-inspired compositions.

The chamber music ensemble of the Berlin Residence Orchestra awakens the contrasting emotions in baroque works with lively playing. Thus, in Antonio Vivaldi's overture "L'Olimpiade" - Concerto for Strings and Basso Continuo in G minor RV 157 - the stormy & passionate variations over a repeating "Lamento Bass" merge with the shadow play under the canopy of the park trees.

"Summer" from the "Four Seasons" is also stirringly played, though not the work of Vivaldi, but a composition by the Italian Giovanni Antonio Guido, who succeeded Vivaldi in setting the seasonal cycle to music. A refined musical sequence was created that translates scenes of summer into sound in an almost picturesque manner - themes such as shimmering heat, summer thunderstorms, the imitation of animal voices & the dances of ghosts in the shadows of the woods can be found.

The audience can look forward to a wonderful concert that musically stages all these colorful summer images in the open air!
